Macmillan Education Eswatini made history by sponsoring the first national Geography Quiz hosted by the Eswatini Geography Teachers’ Association (ESWAGTA). The exhilarating academic competition brought together the most talented young geographers from all corners of Eswatini. The grand final held at the Ngwane High School Hall featured learners from all four regions of Eswatini in what can only be defined as a spectacular display of fire, determination and pride.

It included Junior Certificate (JC) and EGCSE sections after regionals from where 25 best performing learners emerged as finalists. Learners showed great comprehension of current geographical problems at both local and global levels.

In JC, Nzima Siphosani from Mlambo High School came top with 88%, followed closely by Blessing Jackson (Ka-Boyce High) and Nkosinathi Matsebula (Emnotfweni High). In EGCSE, Lethukuthula Dube from Somnjalose High topped the leaderboard with 73%, followed closely by Beketele Dlamini (Ka-Boyce) and Precious Vilakati (Mankayane).

Senior Inspector of Geography, Mr. M. Dlamini, hailed the event as a dream realized: “This has always been our dream—to see learners applying their knowledge beyond the classroom. Today, that dream has come true.” He added: “Macmillan has always been a trusted partner in education. Their sponsorship shows their unwavering belief in empowering learners and strengthening curriculum delivery.”

He closed with encouragement to learners: “You are not just contestants—you are champions and the future leaders of this country. Embrace Geography not just as a subject, but as a way to understand and improve the world.”

Delivering a stirring keynote, Macmillan's Marketing Manager Mbuso Sacolo reminded the audience of Geography’s power: “Geography is not just about maps; it is a subject of solutions. It teaches us how to live sustainably, how to plan wisely, and how to understand our rapidly changing world.”

Macmillan’s sponsorship included trophies, branded T-shirts, stationery, shopper bags, headsets, and framed certificates. All 25 finalists walked away with Macmillan goodies and renewed inspiration.

This landmark competition didn’t just crown winners it sparked a movement. With Macmillan leading the charge, Geography is no longer just a subject; it’s a calling, and the future is in capable hands.
